COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College women's basketball team will be the sixth seed in the NCAA Division II South Region, as the Lady Tigers begin a quest for a national championship.
Benedict will face third-seed Lee University in the first round on Friday on the campus of Union University in Jackson, Tenn. The game time is noon Central Time (1 p.m. Eastern).
The Lady Tigers, 23-7 overall, earned the SIAC automatic bid to the national tournament with their conference championship on Saturday. They will face Lee, 24-7 overall, the Gulf South Conference tournament runners-up, losing to third-ranked and region host Union.
The winner of Friday's contest will face the winner between 18
th-ranked Tampa (29-5), the Sunshine State Conference tournament champions, and 21
st-ranked Valdosta State (23-5) in the region semifinals on Saturday.
The region championship game is Monday, March 14. The region winner advances to the Division II Elite Eight, which will take place March 21-25 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
