SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Benedict College women's track & field team opened their outdoor schedule at the Savannah State Tiger Relays over the weekend with some impressive performances.
Shantel Williams had a strong outdoor debut by running a 12.40 in the women's 100-meter dash. She finished second overall and was the top collegiate runner.
Kassie Jordan finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.78, while
DeNaya Wray finished sixth with a time of 13.19.
Williams and Jordan were also members of the women's 4x100-meter relay team, which dominated the competition by winning the event with a time of 47.89.
Savionna Glover and
Angel Johnson were the other members of the winning team.
The team of Williams, Jordan, Johnson and
Charity Williams also won the 4x200 meter relay race with a new school record with a 1:42.06.
Naila Harris finished second in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 1:01.59.
Cavel Barnett finished fifth, also running a season-best time of 1:03.35.
Kanesha Moses finished sixth with a time of 1:04.03.
The jump squad was led by
Kyra Buffen, who jumped her personal best of 5.61 meters (18 feet, 5 inches) in the long jump to win the event. She also jumped 11.20 meters (36 feet, 9 inches) in the triple jump and finished fifth. She also finished fifth in the high jump with a season best jump of 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch). Buffen also ran the 400-meter hurdles with a seasons best time of 1:14.33 to finish fourth.
Jada David jumped a personal-best of 11.60 meters (38 feet, ¾ inch) in the triple jump. She finished second overall and was the first collegiate athlete finisher. She also won the 400-meter hurdles event with a time of 1:09.83.
Savionna Glover finished third in the long jump with a jump of 5.47 meters (17 feet, 11 inches), and third in the triple jump with 11.36 meters (37 feet, 3 inches).
Aanya Howard jumped a season-best 1:55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) in the high jump, finishing fourth. She also threw a season best of 20.24 meters (66 feet, 5 inches) in the javelin throw.
The hurdlers were led by
Santiona Freeman, who ran a season best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.09 to finish second, and was the first collegiate finisher. She also finished 10th in the long jump with a jump of 4.89 meters (16 feet, ½ inch).
Sinia Massillon finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a season best time of 17.16. She also finished third in 400-meter hurdles with a season best time of 1:11.87.
Cailyn Johnson finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.26.
Shamia Colden-Burson led the throwers with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 33.91 meters (111 feet, 3 inches). She also finished fifth in the discus throw with a distance of 31.38 meters (102 feet, 11 inches).
Paris Stanton finished second in the shot put with a mark of 12.30 meters (40 feet, 4 inches). She also hit a season best in the hammer throw with a distance of 30.25 meters (93 feet, 3 inches) to finish fifth. She finished 10th in the discus throw with a distance of 23.91 meters (78 feet, 5 inches).
Benedict's distance medley relay team of
Floma Okumu,
Naila Harris,
Anony Walton, and
Jane Kiborus finished second with a time of 13:49.02.
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Jordan, Johnson, Williams and Davis finished second overall with a time of 4:01.36.
Benedict will travel to Myrtle Beach this weekend to compete in the Spring Break Meet.
