CLEMSON, S.C. – The Benedict College indoor men's track and field team opened the 2024-25 season on Friday at the Clemson Opener, with some outstanding performances, setting four personal records and three school records, while the women's team also set a personal record.
Zack Washington set an indoor school record in the long jump with a mark of 7.18 meters (23 feet, 6 ¾ inches). He finished fourth overall behind a professional and two Division I competitors. That jump is a NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
In the men's 600-meter run,
Matthew Paul broke the school record with a time of 1:23.34. A couple of heats later,
Javel Best broke that with a near-identical time. Best finished 15
th overall, while
Matthew Paul was right behind in 16
th place.
Chase Ransom finished seventh in the weight throw with a personal-record throw of 15.66 meters (51 feet, 4 ½ inches).
Darrian Clarke finished 11
th in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.03.
Newcomer
Jacobie Sims finished 16
th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.52.
Sadiki Marsh finished 16
th in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:47.55, and freshman Terrell Alexander made his collegiate debut with a 26
th-place finish in the 300-meter run with a time of 35.61.
For the women,
Jada David recorded a personal-best in the triple jump with a mark of 11.46 meters (37 feet, ¼ inches).
The Tigers return to action on Jan. 11, competing at the Gamecocks Indoor Open at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Facility.
