COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed in the Gamecock Opener on Saturday at the South Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex, and had several outstanding performances.
For the men,
Zach Washington finished third overall in the long jump behind a professional and a Division I competitor. He jumped 7.25 meters (23 feet, 9 ½ inches), which currently ranks 18
th-best in Division II.
Terrel Alexander finished 10
th overall in the men's 300-meter run, with a time of 34.84.
Sergio White was 17
th in the same event with a time of 36.44, and
Jesaiah Jones was 21
st with a time of 36.83.
Javel Best finished ninth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.68.
Jacobie Sims finished ninth in the semi-finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8:47.
For the women,
Jada David finished fourth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.44 meters (37 feet, 6 ½ inches).
Yassmine Chambers finished fourth in the weight throw with a mark of 13.97 meters (45 feet, 10 inches), and also finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.38 meters (40 feet, 7 ½ inches).
Paris Stanton was 12
th in the shot put with a mark of 10.83 meters (35 feet, 6 ½ inches).
Xaria Bascombe finished 22
nd in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.98.
The Benedict teams will compete in the Carolina Gamecocks Challenger on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
