LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Benedict College women's indoor track & field team stands in first place, while the men are in second after the first day of the 2025 SIAC Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center.
The Lady Tigers scored 69 points with six of 17 events completed on the first day. Tuskegee is second with 65.5 points, while Central State is third with 27 points.
The men's team stands in second place after the first day with 34 points, five points behind leader Morehouse with 39 points with four events completed. Tuskegee is third with 25 points.
The Tigers won two events on Thursday, as
Chase Ransom captured first place in the men's weight throw with a mark of 17.02 meters (55 feet, 10 ¼ inches), and
Zach Washington won the long jump with a season-best jump of 7.27 meters (23 feet, 10 ¼ inches), which is the 29
th-best mark in Division II.
Sergio White also scored for the Tigers in the long jump, finishing fifth with a mark of 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1 ½ inches).
On the track,
Kelvin Kiprop finished sixth in the men's 5,000-meter run, while
Nelson Kipkemboi was seventh. Benedict's distance medley relay team of Kipkemboi,
Jacobie Sims,
Sadiki Marsh and Kiprop finished fourth.
The Lady Tigers also won two events on Thursday, as
Santiona Freeman captured the women's pole vault event by clearing 2.28 meters (7 feet, 5 ¾ inches), and
Yassmine Chambers won the women's weight throw with a mark of 14.09 meters (46 feet, 2 ¾ inches).
Paris Stanton finished third in the weight throw (13.04 meters, 42 feet, 9 ½ inches).
Benedict did well in the women's high jump, as Karma Moultrie and Desire' Young tied for second by clearing 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch), and
Anaiya Houseal was fourth, also clearing 1.55 meters.
The Lady Tigers finished fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth in the long jump.
Jada David was fifth with 5.02 meters (16 feet, 5 ¾ inches), followed by
Joslynn Moultrie (4.95 meters, 16 feet, 3 inches), Freeman (4.92 meters, 16 feet, 1 ¾ inches), and
Kiara Scott (4.89 meters, 16 feet, ½ inch).
Mercy Kwambai finished fourth in the women's 5,000-meter run, one of two track finals on the first day. The other was the distance medley relay, with the team of Kwambai, Bre'Ashia Lester,
Torriann Noad and
Lydia Kosgei finishing fifth.
