COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College men's outdoor track and field team stands in first place after the first day of the 2025 Cricket SIAC Championship, held at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
Wednesday's first day saw finals in three events – the men's hammer throw, and the 10,000-meter run. The long jump was suspended and will be resumed Thursday. Benedict leads with 25 points, while Morehouse is second with 23 points. Albany State is third with nine points, followed by Edward Waters with eight points, Fort Valley State with six points, Savannah State with five points, and Tuskegee with two points.
Chase Ransom won the men's hammer throw with a mark of 49.78 meters (163 feet, 4 inches).
Morris Walker finished in sixth place with a mark of 36.41 meters (119 feet, 5 inches) and
DuShaun Tucker finished seventh at 36.14 meters (119 feet, 5 inches).
Kelvin Kiprop finished third in the 10,000-meter run (34:50.82) and
Nelson Kipkemboi finished fifth with a time of 35:46.53.
The championship will continue Thursday, with finals in the shot put, triple jump, discus throw, pole vault, and the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Preliminary heats will be held in the 110-meter hurdles, 1,500-meter run, 400-meter dash, the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay.
