MACON, Ga. – The Benedict College baseball team will be competing in the 2025 Cricket SIAC Baseball Championship at Luther Williams Field in Macon, Ga., beginning on Thursday.
 
The Tigers, 23-16, earned the sixth seed in the tournament and will face third-seed Savannah State (29-12) at 9 a.m. on Thursday in the day's first game.
 
During the regular season, Savannah State won two of three from the Tigers. Benedict took an 8-2 victory in the first game of their three-game series.
 
Benedict enters the championship tournament on a four-game winning streak. Benedict is having its best season since winning 25 games in 2017. Benedict is making its first appearance in the SIAC championship tournament since 2019.
 
Benedict leads the SIAC in batting average, hitting .335 as a team, which ranks 16^th best in the nation. The Tigers also leads the SIAC with 70 home runs in 40 games, and rank fifth in the nation in home runs per game. Benedict leads the SIAC and the nation with 11.2 runs scored per game.
 
Juan Guardado has been one of the top offensive players for the Tigers. He leads the SIAC and currently is the nation's leader in on-base percentage (.648). He also leads the SIAC in home runs with 15, and leads the SIAC and is second in the nation in slugging percentage (.960). Isaiah Canty also leads the SIAC and the nation in runs scored per game, while Guardado is second.
 
Coach Selwyn Young earned a milestone win earlier this season, surpassing 300 career wins at Benedict.
