LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Benedict College women's indoor track & field team stands in second place after the first day of the 2026 SIAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship presented by Toyota, at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center, while the men's team is in fourth place.
The Lady Tigers earned 37 points on the first day, trailing first-day leader Tuskegee, who scored 70 points. Central State is third with 27 points.
For the men, the top four teams are separated by just seven points. Morehouse has the first-day lead with 30 points, followed by Allen with 28 points, Tuskegee with 27 and Benedict with 23 points.
Anaiya Houseal won the women's high jump event in a jump-off, clearing 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch).
Karma Moultrie finished third in the same event, clearing 1.5 meters (4 feet, 11 inches).
Also winning for the women was
Yassmine Chambers, who took first place in the women's weight throw with a mark of 14 meters (45 feet, 11 ¼ inches).
For the men, Benedict's
Zack Washington was also a gold medal winner on the first day of competition, winning his signature event, the long jump. Washington, who currently ranks second in the nation, won the event with a jump of 7.61 meters (24 feet, 11 ¾ inches).
The second and final day of the championship is set for Friday.
Other first-day highlights:
- Jacobie Sims had the fastest qualifying time in the men's 60-meter hurdles preliminaries with a time of 8.37.
- Anaiya Houseal qualified for the finals in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.41.
- Terrel Alexander had the third-fastest qualifying time in the men's 200-meter preliminaries with a time of 21.61. Stephen Judd also qualified with a time of 21.62, while Zack Washington also qualified with a time of 21.93.
- Alexander also qualified for the finals of the men's 400-meters with a time of 48.84.
- Gabrielle Pinder qualified for the finals in the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.05.
- Bravin Bor finished fourth in the men's 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:03.98. Bor also qualified for the finals of the 1-mile run with a time of 4:48.21.
- DuShaun Tucker finished fifth in the men's weight throw with a mark of 13.42 meters (44 feet, ½ inch).
- Caren Kipkoech finished seventh in the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 22:52.29.
- David Smith qualified for the finals of the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.94.
- Gabrielle Pinder and Jada Williams both qualified for the finals of the women's 60-meter dash. Pinder had the third-fastest time (7.70), while Williams clocked a 7.91.
- The men's distance medley relay team of Kevin Koech, Josiah Lacey, Nicholas Kibet and Bravin Bor finished fifth with a time of 12:12.18.
- The women's distance medley relay team of Mercy Kwambai, Torriann Noad, Rena Chebor and Caren Kipkoech finished sixth with a time of 16:05.44.
- Steven Salley stands in third place after the first day of the men's heptathlon. Salley scored 2,448 points through the first four events, and trails the leader by 261 points.
