Benedict's Johnson Named NCBWA South Region Player Of The Week

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has announced the South Region Player of the Week as Benedict's Kent Johnson and the NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week as Eckerd's Tyler Brashear.
 
Johnson was named the SIAC Player of the Week after helping lead the offensive assault for the Benedict Tigers in their series sweep over Kentucky State. In three games, he went 7-for-11 (.636) with 2 doubles, 4 home runs, and 8 RBIs. He had a .667 on-base percentage and a 2.000 slugging percentage with a 2.667 OPS.
 
Brashear earned his first regional award after he pitched seven innings, only allowing one hit while striking out 13 batters in a 13-3 win over Nova Southeastern. Five of his batters struck out looking in the middle game of a three-game series, and the eventual sweep over the Sharks. He also had a 1.000 fielding percentage with one putout.
 
Johnson and Brashear move on to the NCBWA National Player of the Week ballot to be announced on Thursday, March 5.
 
The South Region includes teams from the SIAC, Gulf South Conference and Sunshine State Conference.
