DURHAM, N.C. – Benedict College All-American
Zack Washington opened his outdoor season with a record-setting jump, winning the long jump event at Duke University's Duke Invitational on Saturday.
Washington jumped 7.61 meters (24 feet, 11 ¾ inches) on his third attempt. He won the event by beating multiple Division I competitors from North Carolina State, Charlotte, Virginia, Coastal Carolina and The Citadel.
His mark ranks fifth-best in NCAA Division II so far this season, while also being a meet and Benedict school record.
The Benedict track & field teams have one more outdoor meet – at the Shondra Coleman-Singleton Invitational in Orangeburg, S.C. – before hosting the SIAC Championship April 21-23 at the University of South Carolina's Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
