PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Benedict College men's golf team shot an opening-round score of 329 and stands in second place after the first round of the 2018 SIAC Golf Championship at Flat Creek Golf Course on Monday.
Albany State, the defending champion, shot a 320 and has a nine-stroke lead over the Tigers. Benedict leads third-place Miles College (335) by six strokes. Morehouse (339) is in fourth, followed by LeMoyne-Owen College (361), Kentucky State (367) and Paine (421).
Sam Smith led the Tigers with a first-round 78, the second-best score of the opening round.
William Edwards is third overall with a 79.
Ignacio Espina fired an 84 and stands in a tie for 11
th place.
Rajai Cousley shot an 88 and
Marqus Edwards shot a 95.
The second round will take place on Tuesday, with the final round on Wednesday.
